WILLIAMS TERRACE GROUND-BREAKING CEREMONY

The ground-breaking ceremony for Williams Terrace Senior Housing took place on Friday afternoon. Charleston Housing Authority Executive Director Donald Cameron opened the ceremony, followed by Mayor Riley who shared some words about the project’s significance to Charleston. Henry Williams, current Charleston Housing Authority Board Chair, for whom the project is named also presented his thoughts.

The land originally housed a 162-unit building for low-income families, but was destroyed in Hurricane Hugo in 1989. Mayor Riley said the future complex will close a chapter in the city’s history following the devastating storm. The complex will be the first and only housing in Charleston specifically set aside for low-income seniors. The building will open in June 2015 and is located adjacent to the new Gadsdenboro Park which is already under construction.
